Itty-Bitty Moth with ‘Yellowish-White Scales’ On Head Named After Donald Trump

A newly ascertained moth species, having yellowish-white scales toppings is named after US President-elect Donald Trump. The head of the Moth hosts yellowish-white scales, which is pretty akin to Donald Trump’s signature hairdo and hence the biologists have named it after the name of Trump. Now the new species will be called as “Neopalpa donaldtrumpi.”

The evolutionary biologist Vazrick Nazari, who is also the lead founder of this new species of Moth, has renamed the creature after the US’s soon-to-be-president Donald Trump. Commenting on this matter, Vazrick Nazari said, “The newly detected Moth Species has yellow-white scale topping in its body, which is quite similar to the iconic hairstyle of President-elect Donald Trump. Following this resemblance, we have named the new moth as ‘Neopalpa donaldtrumpi’ which is a small tribute to Donald J. Trump.”

To recall, the discovery of the new species was done by Vazrick Nazari a few months earlier. The Canadian-biologist while examining the specimens of Moth from the Bohart Museum of Entomology in California as a part of the research of the North American moth family Gelechiidae, which is also, called twirler moths, discovered the new species Moth.

During the experiment, the researchers examined total six male and one female Neopalpa donaldtrumpi species and found the average body length of all of the species was to be approximately about 0.4, nearly same as their wingspans. The head scales of the moth are yellowish-white and are quite coarse. Additionally, it also has a distinct orange-yellow tinge, minuscule off-white bodies are, and brown or grayish-brown wings are.

After the discovery, the biology researcher put its DNA for testing which later proved it as a new distinct species of Moth. Moreover, its extraordinary wing pattern and the exceptional DNA barcode also flagged it as a new and never found species. In the study, the lead researcher also described the presence of unique shapes of certain folds and pocket-like organism on the genitalia of Neopalpa donaldtrumpi, which is also a special characteristic of the species.

In the recently published study, the evolutionary biology researcher from Ottowa, Canada, mentioned, “The territory of the moth has spread over the regions of Southern California in the U.S. and has gone all the way through Baja California in Mexico – the barrier that the soon-to-be-president Donald trump has suggested to construct alongside the boundary between the two countries.  It is also one of the remarkable similarities between the new Moth and the president-elect.
