Apple is Opening the First Floating Store in the World in Singapore
Apple has hundreds of stores all around the world that serve as showrooms, sales and service centers. However, now the famous company has gone one step further, as they confirmed plans to build its first floating Apple Store, a massive silver orb, located near the Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore, the great technology center of that part of the world. This extravagant store, first one of its kind in the world, is scheduled to open this year, although the exact date has yet to be announced.
The new, incredible store will be located in the dome-like structure, on the water off Marina Bay Sands, which earlier served as a nightclub called Avalon, from 2011 to 2016.
When the sun goes down, the glass panels will offer a view of the city center and the iconic waterfront. Apple will make a structure of glass panels that will reflect the sky over Singapore during the day and at night, the globe will gently glow with traditional paper lanterns carried by participants in mid-autumn festival.
The narrow slit at the top will allow natural sunlight inside, whereas from the above it will give the appearance of a glass iris.
Therefore, a connection with the mainland will be twofold – a classic bridge will connect with the marina, and an underwater tunnel will lead to a nearby shopping mall.
This will be the third Apple store in Singapore, since the first store was opened in 2017, and the second one in 2019. Perhaps it might seem odd to someone that a new store will open at the time of the global pandemic, but on the other hand this magnificent project will definitely draw the attention of people from the everyday gloomy news, that they have been listening for months due to the virus.
Apple said it would most certainly limit occupancy at the new store during the pandemic and provide intensified cleaning procedures.
Just like with any Apple store around the world, officials from the company stated that they expect that Apple Marina Bay Sands would bring the best of Apple to their their customers, it will be a place to exchange creative ideas, research, connect and create something new. Certainly, it will be a place where Apple products will be sold, again in one of the most exclusive and most expensive locations in the world, as befits a company whose wealth is estimated at 2 billion dollars.
Marina Bay Sands
Marina Bay Sands has become a major international tourist destination, due to the appearance in the 2019 romantic comedy ”Crazy Rich Asians”, when people could see it in its all glory.
This famous luxury resort rises above the bay and offers the largest rooftop infinity pool in the world, 20 restaurants and a top notch casino. It is directly connected to the best shopping center in Singapore and the Museum of Art and Science. Visitors of the hotel may ride along the inner canal in Chinese boats that remind of traditional 17th-century Chinese vessels.
It was designed by the architect Moshe Safdie, who was responsible for the discovery of the deck of cards. The owners of the resort also hired 5 famous artists to create works of art and integrate them into the interior walls of the hotel.
