Maryland-Based Scientists Classify Key Proteins That Turn On Zika as a Deadly Virus
One year earlier, Zika virus spread by day-active Aedes mosquitoes was ambiguous for the scientists. But later, when the virus exploded into one of the most deadly diseases, causing hundreds of infant and mothers’ death, scientists started giving it attention and over the year, now, we know much more about the virus. However, till now, the researchers were unable to detect the key components that trigger the poisonous effects of this disease. But recently, the scientists from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine have detected seven key proteins that have made the Zika virus so deadly. These proteins are likely to be responsible for the birth defects related to the pathogen.
The study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences is the first complete explanation of the Zika virus genome. The study was conducted by the scientists from the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine (UM SOM) and was issued today for public access. During the study, the scientists have discovered several proteins which are blamed as the chief perpetrators behind the increasing deadliness of the Zika Virus.
Zika virus, which was first identified in 1947, has infected millions of people around the globe, especially in regions of America. In the United States and its nearby provenances, till now, more than 38,000 Zika cases have been registered, among which most are received from Puerto Rico. Till date, there are no solid and proven remedies or treatments have been discovered for healing or preventing the symptoms of Zika infections like fatigue, fever, eye redness, vomiting, chills, loss of appetite, or sweating.
Giving a synopsis about Zika, Richard Zhao, the lead author of the study and a professor of pathology said in a statement, “The components of this virus have been a real anonymity for us. While scientists from the entire globe were used to be staggered because of the mysterious configuration of Zika Virus, we get into the in-depth detailing of the symptoms, which results in the vital insight into how Zika impinged on cells. After concluding the study, we have found some crucial and pivotal clues about Zika which can help in conducting future research and forming remedies for combating the disease.”
