CoviShield Trails Started in India
The second phase of testing of the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine has begun successfully in India. Two volunteers were injected with the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and were placed for medical examination.
Initially, five volunteers were enrolled at the Bharathi Vidyapeeth Medical College and Hospital in Pune for the CoviShield Vaccine Phase II Trial. Three of them tested positive for COVID-19. As soon as they are disqualified, the other two male volunteers are allowed to participate in the second phase of the trial.
CoviShield – Testing Phase
The CoviShield Vaccine developed by the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford has shown promising results in the initial trials.
Now this Vaccine is going through the Phase II and Phase III trials in many Brazil, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
The Research department of Oxford announced that a candidate has survived the phase I and II clinical human trials and triggered dual immune response against the coronavirus.
The report from the British Medical Journal specifies that Oxford’s Vaccine has triggered a dual response in individuals age 18 to 55 years.
Vaccine Plans in India
According to the Indian Regulatory Rules every vaccine should be tested to use in the Indian population. As the credibility of the vaccine is tested by the Phase I Trial in the UK is not mandatory to repeat it, the remaining two trials are now conducted in India.
Pune Serum Institute of India has partnered with the AstraZeneca to produce the Oxford Vaccine in India and many other media and low-income countries.
Earlier Bill and Melinda Gates has granted a fund of $150 million to support Serum Institute of India to produce the two vaccines, Oxford and Nova vax
Vaccination Trails
The ongoing Phase II Trail is planned to conduct in two other places, KEM hospital in India and PGI in Chandigarh. In Phase II the efficiency and ability to protect the volunteers are checked. And in Phase III it is planned to expand 17 new sites and hospitals around India.
People and officials are waiting for the result of Oxford Vaccine Trails, it is estimated that nearly 1600 volunteers will take part in both trials in total.
