Facebook’s Warning to Australian Media

Facebook has given a Warning notice to worldwide supervisory bodies by taking a tough position opposing Australia’s proposal to compel the company to pay the media businesses for the chronicles.

Facebook registered a strong denial, looking to remove the planned regulation which the Australian Government had drafted to make the American technology companies like Facebook and Google must pay for the value the stories make for the digital platforms. If the Legislation is approved, Facebook will stop Australians and publishers from exchanging news on Facebook and Instagram.

Facebook vs Australian Government

Conventional news companies have long protested that their news content is being misused by digital companies without paying compensation. Australia has said that it has put effort to ensure equality in the playing stage as once-powerful publishers lose advertising income to Google and Facebook.

Facebook – A Popular Social Networking Platform

The draft Australian legislation, which needs to be passed in parliament, calls for an independent Judgment to decide how much Facebook and Google must compensate to publishers if the two parties can’t see an agreement.

The scene is now in place for a bitter clash after the Australian government stated that it won’t come under any pressure by heavy-handed threats or force. This confrontation has turned Facebook’s most distant arena with a population of around 26 million, into a testing situation as regulators around the world twist their own influence against the online giants.

Digital Services Offered by Facebook

Facebook an American company offers online networking services to the common people and businesses and now is the largest social network provider in the world. Facebook was founded in 2004 and has more than a billion users using the social-networking site. The company’s Main Office is located in California. Although the right to use Facebook is free, the company gets a substantial amount of income from advertisements.

In April month this year, one of the regulators in France issued a command to Google to pay to traditional news companies to show snippets of articles.

Facebook said in a blog that it is the Australian government’s false assumption that it profits most from its association with the publishing companies and said that this supposition is the other way round and while Google has stated that it opposed the legislative rule and warned that the free services used in the country would be at risk of being blocked.
