Google Pay India is launching a completely new feature in which users can add NFC Powered Credit/Debit Cards in payment mode in addition to the existing banking option.

The move was made to obtain online payment using the card but was not available to the public until almost a year after the announcement.

According to Android Policy reports, Google is supporting the addition of credit and debit cards. Users need to verify their card by verifying the (OTP) One Time Password generated by User Bank.

Once registered, Google Pay brings the tap and pay function used to make touchless payments to NFC-enabled terminals using smartphones.

Reddit said the card support has been available to some users on Google Pay for almost a month.

Statement regarding rollout by Sajith Sivanandan, business head, Google pay, and next billion user initiatives India.

“We started offering Google Paylo Card earlier this year, which helps customers to make debit/credit card payments through a secure token attached to their phone, where their personal details are encrypted for security reasons. For example, you can click on NFC-enabled POS terminals or pay online without being redirected to third party secured sites. We are enabling this feature for Visa card users on Axis Bank and SBI credit cards, along with more issuers coming soon.”

Google has set a pinch for token cards announced last year by the search giant with the option of adding pay cards.

This facility is expected to bring a secure online payment experience using digital tokens instead of showing the original credit/debit card number to the payment gateway.

Google said token cards are available for Visa cards issued by Axis, HDFC, Kotak, and Standard Chartered banks. However, the new rollout also seems to be limited in nature.
