2020 is expected to bring a phenomenal occasion for the space enthusiasts and stargazers as astronomers have made a bold prediction about the occurrence of a Red Nova in the very same year. As per the fresh prediction of astronomers, the dual star detected in the summer constellation Cygnus is expected to burst into an exceptional and rare Red Nova sometime in 2020.
Larry Molnar of Calvin College, while speaking at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Grapevine, Tex, on Friday, said, “The crash of two stars, located in the binary system will trigger a so bright brick-red bonfire which will be visible from the earth and sky gazers can witness the natural phenomenon in naked eyes.” Initially, the stars in the binary structure will line up, followed by the mingling, and then, they will catastrophically blow up, and send out their backbone all over space. This explosion will set off the extremely rare reddish waves, which are called “red novas,” because of their characteristic red shade.
As the assemblage, Cygnus moves smoothly along the Milky Way in each late summer and spring, the extraterrestrial cluster’s left wing hosts a soft binary star which are named as KIC 9832227. The two stars are revolving around each other and are heading towards a big bang that will set off in an outstanding red nova. As said by Molnar and his colleagues, the current orbital period of KIC 9832227 is just beneath 11 hours, and as that period is dropping down, the severance between the stars is also becoming smaller, which is making them spiraling in together.
In 2008, the last and one of the best-studied red novas took place. The celestial object, known as V1309 Scorpii, was a binary system, which measured for more than 6 years before it amalgamated, followed by a huge eruption. This notable blast created the clearly visible red nova, which dates back almost 9 years. However, till then, no such clear phenomenal events have taken place and since years, the astronomers are eagerly waiting to find more such binary systems before their explosion.
